Top Trends in Children's Books
Scholastic has released its forecast of the top 10 trends in children’s books for 2013.
They include the “timely topic” of bullying, biographies and Civil War anniversary books.
Survival stories in nonfiction could also be hot.
In fiction, the Scholastic editors expect to see more strong girl protagonists, novels in cartoon form, and science fiction.
The year’s big movie tie-ins include Ender’s Game, from Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s Beautiful Creatures, Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments, and the upcoming Percy Jackson adaptation, Sea of Monsters.
